Real Talk

There has been a whirlwind of events within the past couple of months and I felt it was necessary to let you in on the excitement before 2018. I always took the cliche saying “life is a roller coaster ride” with a grain of salt until I recently experienced some trial and triumph. When I first created this blog, believe it or not, I was in a bit of a pit. Right before I left for my trip to Italy I experienced a terrible car accident, leaving my car completely totaled. I was hit head on by a taxi driver going north on Broadway in NYC. Thankfully, no one was injured in the event but my car had been completely demolished. Simultaneously, I was apartment hunting because I wanted to be closer to my favorite city. Not to mention, getting around South Jersey without a car is merely impossible. Now, throw a breakup into the mix and you may as well just check yourself into your local clinic (LOL). My point is, sometimes LIFE GETS REALLY F*CKING REAL. We all come out the other side stronger than we were before, right? Which gave me a reason to post this for anyone going through a difficult time. Everything that is happening around you will eventually make perfect sense. We are all human and could all use a pick me up once in a while. I believe sharing my own experiences will impact the next babe going through a similar hardship. If you are one of them, I hope this post finds you well!

TAKE TIME FOR YOU. If you are like me, you will throw yourself into work head first and not come up for any air. You need your rest. Often times we make the wrong decisions or react because we are just simply exhausted. Taking time to pamper yourself is so vital to your overall health and well being. Get a facial, massage, exercise or just do anything that makes YOU feel better. If you need to turn off social media for a few days or just take a day of rest, DO IT. It will only make you feel more empowered and energized for the next day. The most powerful boss babes know when they need a day of rest so they can kick ass tomorrow.

CHANGE YOUR SITUATION. As women, we feel like we can change the world. The harsh reality is we can’t. The only thing we could do is change the way we look at the situation. I know it is easier said than done, but believe me you will eventually get really good at it. It feels good! If you’re unhappy, leave the situation you are in. Leave anything that doesn’t build you up. If you don’t like your current job, LEAVE. There is something more fulfilling out there for you. If you don’t like your career path, change it. You are unstoppable. There are endless opportunities if you can see the light and be open to receiving it.

GAIN PERSPECTIVE. There is always a powerful take away from any pit of a situation. Maybe you didn’t get the job you interviewed for? Hearing the word no is never easy to accept in any situation. Rejection is an opportunity for growth and I hope it pushes you harder next time. It allows us to figure it out and create a better plan on what we can do next time. Accepting our flaws in a situation will allow us to grow and become the CEO of our life.

Now it is time to REGAIN CONTROL. Recognizing that you have the capacity to overcome any obstacle in life is very empowering. You have control over your business, relationships and your life. Create it just as you want to see it and don’t let anything or anyone hold you back.

Leave a comment if you want to share an experience that changed your life for the better!

Health/Fitness Skin Care

REMOVE THIS INGREDIENT FOR BETTER SKIN

GIRL TALK!

Sometimes we tend to forget about the largest organ on/in our body…. THE SKIN! Since the day I encountered puberty, I always struggled to figure out what would work for me. I am a product junkie, I have invested in a lot of skin care that DOESN’T work for me. Believe me when I tell you, I have a larger selection of skin care than Sephora!

In my younger teen years, when I started developing a problem with my skin I immediately paid a visit to my local dermatologist. I was prescribed Accutane (an oral medication you take once daily). I soon realized it did nothing but give me random panic attacks and elevated my cholesterol levels (fun times). The levels were so high I needed to stop taking it almost immediately. As I did research, I later learned you can heal your body from the inside out. If I only knew then what I know now!

It is safe to say, it took me about twelve years to really figure out what works for me and what does not. Anyone who has a similar experience, I hope this article finds you well and can help you!

If you are prone to hormonal breakouts (acne on your cheeks or neck) the main ingredient you want to eliminate from your diet is DAIRY!

Even the government recommends we include low-fat dairy products in our daily diet, right?

Well, without getting into the politics and government nutrition recommendations, the truth is processed dairy substances do your body more harm than good.

Why?

  • Milk and dairy products contain growth hormones and inflammatory substances that clog your pores and elevate your testosterone levels. That growth hormone is called IGF-1. This hormone may be good for baby cows, it is most certainly not good for us. It aids in nurturing the cow helping them grow and become stronger. For us humans, it will cause increased levels of sebum (oil) and growth of the existing acne that we are trying to fight.
  • Dairy adheres dead skin cells inside of your pores, so they can’t exfoliate naturally. Therefore, leading to more acne.
  • As your body produces more testosterone, it may stimulate oil glands which creates a living space for more acne to grow.

Eat for your gut and your skin will repay you.

The foods and drinks we want to avoid include: Cheese, milk, ice cream, yogurt, pizza (my favorite), cream cheese, and so on.

I know this is extremely difficult but your skin will thank you! There are a lot of products that you can substitute with.

Almond milk, coconut milk, coconut based yogurt (still containing pro-biotics), vegan cheeses, and cream cheese.

Side note: You still want to avoid an overabundance of soy based products. It is made from processed soybeans, which can have estrogen-mimicking effects on your body. You want to stay away from products that can potentially alter and disturb your hormone levels.

Ok, that was a lot of information! I hope this article will help you feel confident in your food choices when it comes to meeting your skin and overall health needs!
