Golden Hour Glow

Skin is always in! I didn’t realize the importance of a healthy skin care regimen until I started wearing makeup and photographing my skin. I grew up with oily to combination skin; with the occasional breakout that would only make an appearance whenever I had somewhere special to go. The break outs I get are typically hormonal and are underneath my skin (around my mouth and on my neck). They take about a week to dissipate and every ounce of patience I have not to touch them! You girls know the struggle of getting that beautiful glow to your skin without looking like an oil slick! It took me about two years to perfect this routine! So, if you’re struggling with a similar scenario, Be PATIENT! With the right skin assessment and products, you will get the relief you have been looking for. The skin care routine I am going to share with you may not work for you, considering everyone’s skin is unique and requires special attention. My only goal is to introduce you to a new line in hopes you pick up a few tips that you could incorporate into your own routine. If you have been struggling with acne, have dry skin, or just want to try some new products – you’ve come to the right place!

Regardless of how tired, lazy or drunk (let’s be honest), I cleanse my face twice a day (it is a serious commitment)! Once in the morning and once before bed. I love to use micellar water before my cleanser because it loosens the makeup I am wearing. I have tried a ton of cleansing oils; professional brands – CVS brands, and they have all made me break out. The micellar water cleanses and moisturizes your skin at the same time. It’s also a longtime skin-care secret of French women and it finally made its way to the U.S., for good reason. Micelles are tiny oil molecules suspended in water that work to pull dirt and oil out of the skin without leaving it stripped of its natural oils. My favorite micellar water is made by, Simple. It is great for sensitive skin and is super easy to use. Just soak a cotton pad with the water and massage into your skin in circular motions.

Next, I apply my SkinCeuticals soothing cleanser foam. This product line is EVERYTHING! I was introduced to this brand a couple of years ago and refuse to use anything else ever since. I prefer a foaming cleanser over a cream cleanser because I don’t have to use as much product and it feels gentler on my skin. It’s a soap free formula and is filled with botanical extracts which help calm the skin. I love that it doesn’t leave your face feeling stripped and dry; it keeps your skin feeling nourished and moisturized.

Serums on serums… I can’t stress the importance of hyaluronic acid. After I cleanse my skin and towel blot my face, I apply SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier. It is filled with skin boosting benefits and has superpower hydrating properties. It delivers lasting moisture into the skin. As we age, our body decreases in collagen production and our skin doesn’t retain as much moisture as it used to. This will plump up your skin and can diminish fine lines and wrinkles. When your skin is dry, the surface is more vulnerable to damage, that is why this step is so important. I have been using this product for six months and have even seen an improvement in my skin texture!

In the morning, after I apply my H.A. serum, my favorite moisturizer to use is SkinCeuticals Emollience. It contains lipids, marine extracts and botanical oils. It is lightweight and doesn’t leave my face feeling oily. When the product dries into my skin, it leaves my face feeling smooth and soft. Mango seed butter and lavender work together to rehydrate and reduce irritation and redness.

Last but not least, my favorite nighttime treatment. Instead of the Emollience moisturizer, I use SkinCeuticals Resveratrol B E. This treatment contains antioxidant benefits, pure vitamin E, and prevention against free-radical damage. When I wake up, my skin looks hydrated and radiant. It will also improve the elasticity and restore moisture. All you need is a tiny, dime-size amount to cover your entire face. It absorbs into the skin beautifully and leaves your skin feeling baby soft. I have been using this treatment for six months and have seen a huge improvement in my acne scars. They faded in color and the surface of the affected areas appear smoother. This treatment paired with the H.A. serum is an amazing nighttime cocktail.

That was information overload! Also, this is not a sponsored post, I just swear by these products! I have struggled finding the right products for my skin for years. When I was younger, I used to dehydrate my skin; thinking that would get rid of the breakouts and overproduction of oil. I didn’t realize I was making my skin worse by doing so. A lot of oily/acne prone skin is lacking moisture! I really hope you look into some of these products and enjoy shopping them below. Introduce one product at a time into your regimen and let your skin adjust. If you change your routine frequently you’re not letting your skin adapt and that could result in a breakout. Everyone deserves to wake up with that golden hour glow because there is no better feeling than being comfortable in your own skin!

Leave any skin care concerns/questions below! If you try these products let me know how they work for you!

Health/Fitness Skin Care

Sometimes we tend to forget about the largest organ on/in our body…. THE SKIN! Since the day I encountered puberty, I always struggled to figure out what would work for me. I am a product junkie, I have invested in a lot of skin care that DOESN’T work for me. Believe me when I tell you, I have a larger selection of skin care than Sephora!

In my younger teen years, when I started developing a problem with my skin I immediately paid a visit to my local dermatologist. I was prescribed Accutane (an oral medication you take once daily). I soon realized it did nothing but give me random panic attacks and elevated my cholesterol levels (fun times). The levels were so high I needed to stop taking it almost immediately. As I did research, I later learned you can heal your body from the inside out. If I only knew then what I know now!

It is safe to say, it took me about twelve years to really figure out what works for me and what does not. Anyone who has a similar experience, I hope this article finds you well and can help you!

If you are prone to hormonal breakouts (acne on your cheeks or neck) the main ingredient you want to eliminate from your diet is DAIRY!

Even the government recommends we include low-fat dairy products in our daily diet, right?

Well, without getting into the politics and government nutrition recommendations, the truth is processed dairy substances do your body more harm than good.

  • Milk and dairy products contain growth hormones and inflammatory substances that clog your pores and elevate your testosterone levels. That growth hormone is called IGF-1. This hormone may be good for baby cows, it is most certainly not good for us. It aids in nurturing the cow helping them grow and become stronger. For us humans, it will cause increased levels of sebum (oil) and growth of the existing acne that we are trying to fight.
  • Dairy adheres dead skin cells inside of your pores, so they can’t exfoliate naturally. Therefore, leading to more acne.
  • As your body produces more testosterone, it may stimulate oil glands which creates a living space for more acne to grow.

Eat for your gut and your skin will repay you.

The foods and drinks we want to avoid include: Cheese, milk, ice cream, yogurt, pizza (my favorite), cream cheese, and so on.

I know this is extremely difficult but your skin will thank you! There are a lot of products that you can substitute with.

Almond milk, coconut milk, coconut based yogurt (still containing pro-biotics), vegan cheeses, and cream cheese.

Side note: You still want to avoid an overabundance of soy based products. It is made from processed soybeans, which can have estrogen-mimicking effects on your body. You want to stay away from products that can potentially alter and disturb your hormone levels.

Ok, that was a lot of information! I hope this article will help you feel confident in your food choices when it comes to meeting your skin and overall health needs!
